The characteristics of SMC satellite antenna

Satellite earth antenna is the key equipment of satellite earth station, and it has the direct bearing on the quality of satellite signal receiving and stability of the system. The traditional satellite antenna is made of iron or aluminium, but they don’t resist corrosion and have a short service life. Gradually, SMC becomes the substitute material due to its superior properties. SMC satellite antenna is formed by the compression molding process and it has an excellent performance which is incomparable with metal materials.

The characteristics of SMC satellite antenna

1. high precision

Since the deformation in the material itself is very small, the precision of compression-moulded antenna is completely guaranteed by mould precision which is usually high. The root-mean-square value of integral reflector of compressed SMC antenna is 0.25mm; the root-mean-square value of single reflector of the segmented antenna is less than 0.3mm and the value is less than 0.6mm after installation.

2. Anti-corrosion

The material for a traditional antenna is aluminium or steel plate, and the performance in acid, alkali, salt and corrosion resistance is not so good. But the antenna made by SMC material solved the shortcomings of metal materials. The advantages are obvious in coastal areas or moist areas or areas with acid rain.

3. Long service life

Normal aluminium plate antenna can be used for 2-3 years or 4-6 years at most. Usually, the antenna is damaged due to salt-fog erosion and ageing. But the service life is prolonged greatly when the material is changed to SMC, usually longer than 15 years.

4. Strong anti-wind capability

Since several vertical and horizontal ribs are designed in the compression molding process of antenna reflector, according to the calculation of structural strength, the wind loading that SMC antenna can bear is up to 45m/s. The rigidity and strength of the SMC antenna are remarkable.

5. Special reflector technology

SMC antenna uses aluminium mesh as the reflector of electromagnetic wave. The aluminium mesh in the final product is imbedded under the SMC surface, so it not only can reflect an electromagnetic wave but can also insulate the atmosphere. Hence SMC material plays a good role in protection.

6. Good consistency without deformation, easy for transportation and installation

Since SMC antenna uses a compression molding process with high temperature and high pressure, the material property and processing technology determines that SMC antenna has incomparable consistency with other materials. It not only guarantees the precision and high-gain of the antenna, but the antenna is also easy to install and commission.
